Before Viet Family was a restaurant, it was just dinner recipes the Ho family carried with them from South Vietnam, cooked from memory, never written down.

They opened on Commercial Drive in 2022 to share those same dishes, made fully plant-based. Not a version of the original. The original.

Getting there took time. Vietnamese cooking leans on fish sauce and pork and broth simmered low for hours - the kind of richness that's easy to lose and hard to earn back. So every dish was tested and re-tested at home, long before it ever reached a table, until it tasted like what we grew up on.

That's what you'll find here. Small, family-run, and cooking the way we always have, just without the meat.
